Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has written to the Chief Executive of Tayside Contracts to raise concerns about the quality of their school meals.

Mr Swinney has written to Tayside Contracts following conversations with several concerned constituents, along with local media coverage that highlighted the poor quality of meals being served to pupils at Blairgowrie High School.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“I am very concerned by recent media coverage relating to the quality of food being served to pupils at Blairgowrie High School. This concern has only deepened following conversations with several constituents.

“Given the very clear guidance that exists around the quality of school meals, I am keen to understand Tayside Contracts’ interpretation of their responsibilities, and whether they believe that the food they are currently offering lives up to the requirements of this guidance

“I have therefore written directly to the Chief Executive of Tayside Contracts to seek his views on this clearly unacceptable matter. Given the seriousness of the issues raised, I hope to receive a quick and substantive response. In the interim, I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
