Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, today paid tribute to local foodbank volunteers within his constituency.

Describing their actions as “selfless”, Mr Swinney also sought to promote various methods of accessing foodbanks.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“The sense of decency and community shown by foodbank volunteers represents the very best that Perthshire North has to offer. Their selfless actions deliver a vital lifeline to those hit hardest by the cruel political choice of austerity.

“I am also particularly keen to ensure that no one in need of food goes hungry due to their geographical location. If a foodbank user is unable to make it to a foodbank, deliveries to their home can be arranged by contacting Perth and Kinross Council’s Welfare Rights team.

“I would encourage any constituents who know of people in need to make them aware of this particular service.”
