Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, today praised a local company that aims to put families first.
Gillies and Mackay, a Perthshire-based shed design company, was “highly commended” at the Scottish Top Employers for Working Families Awards 2018.

The awards, which seek to recognise companies that promote innovative approaches to flexible working, were organised by Family Friendly Working Scotland and held on 22nd March 2018 at an event in Glasgow.

Commenting on the news, Mr Swinney said:

“I am delighted to hear that Gillies and Mackay have been recognised for their approach to flexible working. This award is another example of Perthshire North being both a great place to work and raise a family.
“Helping employees successfully manage their work-life balance isn’t just best for workers – it’s best for business.

“There is clear evidence to suggest that workers that are employed by companies which offer flexible working options are more motivated, more loyal and more productive. I am sure that the family-friendly approach of Gillies and Mackay will serve as an inspiration to other businesses not just in Perthshire North, but across Scotland”

The success of Gillies and Mackay, founded in 1989, comes at a time when 46% of Scots say they currently have the option to work flexibly. Of those, 77% state that they are more productive and will “go the extra mile” for their employer.

Family Friendly Working Scotland is a social start-up in Glasgow that receives funding from the Scottish Government. As recently as 2015, funding was doubled from £100,000 to £250,000.
